2018 is the year of the Talanoa Dialogue, a process mandated by Parties of the UN Climate Change and led by the Fijian COP23 Presidency and the incoming Polish COP24 Presidency.
The Fijian Presidency and the Office of the Governor of the State of California will convene a high-level Talanoa prior to the official opening of the GCAS that will bring together heads of national and sub-national governments, CEOs of companies and industries, heads of various organisations, including UN organisations, research and academic institutions and non-governmental organisations.
These high-level participants will share their experiences and insights, in the spirit of talanoa, on what is needed to strengthen and expand public and private sector partnerships and synergies to fast-track to a net-zero emissions world as soon possible.
The Talanoa will only be on the third question of the Talanoa Dialogue – How do we get there?
The event will –
- Help set the scene for the rest of the GCAS in terms of bringing in the Talanoa spirit into the summit
- Provide high-level inputs to the outcomes of the GCAS
- Contribute to the development of high-level key messages to be presented at the political phase of the Talanoa Dialogue during COP24
