Event Details

Latin America is a region full of potential to increase climate ambition. Its high dependency on natural resources, and the unplanned urban development – which has caused mega-cities dilemmas –  have put Latin America in a crossroads towards finding new and innovative ways to prosperity or  continue last century’s development patterns while devastating our carbon sinks and deposits and increasing social inequality.

Non-State Actors (NSA) in Latin America and the Caribbean have much to say to achieve a resilient and zero carbon future and in many ways they are already taking big steps to cope with climate change challenges. On the 13th of September, we invite you to join an interactive session to discuss how networks of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Non-State Actors (NSA) are contributing to raise climate ambition in light of the Talanoa Dialogue and beyond.

The event aims to:

  • present the results of a research about LAC NSA networks;
  • showcase examples of networks leading climate action in the region;
  • discuss the way ahead for networks of LAC NSA´s to increase climate ambition and adavnce in implementation.

How the conversation will take place:

A map of  NSA’s networks and coalitions taking climate action in LAC will be presented and 5 invited networks will share their experiences.

Based on the practical insights shared, a conversation around the 3 Talanoa questions will be held among invited speakers and participants. Results will be incorporated in a a guide for Talanoa LAC NSA´s submissions, which will be published after the event.

The event will be held in Spanish with simultaneous translation in English.

Previous to the event, material for the discussion will be sent to all registered participants. Please register at our website.

The event is organized in collaboration with: Local Government for Sustainability (ICLEI), Gran Chaco Proadapt, Grupo de Financiamiento Climático para América Latina y Caribe (GFLAC), Observatorio do Clima (OC), Red Argentina de Municipios frente al Cambio Climático (RAMCC), Red Chilena de Municipios ante al Cambio Climático, Adapt Chile, Plataforma Regional LEDS LAC, Asociación Interamericana para la Defensa del Ambiente (AIDA), Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina (CAF), Centro Transdiciplinario de Estudios Ambientales de la Universidad Austral de Chile (CEAM- UACh), Plataforma de Innovación con Sentido and Institute of the Americas.
